“New Year Resolutions that will change your life”
That is the title I wanted to give this post, but I didn’t and here’s why. It doesn’t really matter what the specifics of your resolutions are. What matters is that you stick to them long enough to see results.
How do we stick with it?
Get Clear
The key to a successful resolution lies in its clarity and achievability. Instead of vague aspirations, define specific, measurable, and realistic goals. For instance, rather than saying, “I want to get fit,” specify, “I will exercise for at least 30 minutes three times a week.” This precision provides a roadmap for your journey, making it easier to track progress.
Break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks with deadlines. If your resolution involves a lifestyle change, like adopting a healthier diet, plan your meals, and gradually introduce new habits. Having a well-structured plan helps prevent overwhelm and ensures steady progress.
Get Started
I am great at planning. I started planning my 2024 in October and I have been looking forward to it, but planning is not enough to get you results.
Get Accountability
Share your resolutions with friends, family, or colleagues who can provide encouragement and accountability. Having a support system can make a significant difference when facing challenges or setbacks. Consider joining online communities or finding a buddy with similar goals to share the journey. The power of collective motivation is a force to be reckoned with.
Repeat
The reason why the phrase ‘Consistency is key’ is so repeated is because it’s true. As you work on your goals, take some time to reset every few months. Reflect on your progress and learn from the setback.
