My Morning Routine

Last year, I realized how important my morning routine was. It affects my day when it comes to my energy, my productivity, and my mood. I started experimenting with different morning routines to figure out what works and what doesn’t, and I have been consistent with my current routine long enough for me to call it a routine.

5:00Wake up/Make my bed

My Morning Routine

I follow that schedule every weekday with some modifications when I work from home and during the weekend.

  1. Waking up consistently gives structure to my day and helps me waste less time the night before because I know I have to wake up early. It also provides me with extra time so that I don’t feel the need to rush in the morning.
  2. Ever since I read the book “Make Your Bed”, I have tried to make my bed every day. It gives me this adrenaline boost from a little achievement which motivates me to complete more of my tasks.
  3. I like to have some time to spend in God’s word before I face the day. It renews my soul, strengthens my spirit, and helps me remember who I am, whose I am, why I am.
  4. I used to work out after work, but I recently switched jobs and I now start work an hour later so I decided to do most of my workouts in the morning.
  5. My drive to work is very therapeutic. I use it to just be with myself some days. I also use it to listen to the verses for my discipleship group, a book, a podcast, or some music. It’s an important part of my morning routine and I always end up calmer and/or more knowledgeable.
  6. I get to work half an hour before I start working so I use this time to plan. I use Google Calendar to plan my weeks and keep track of events. I also use Todoist for tasks that are not time sensitive. I take a few minutes to review those two apps every day to get an idea of what needs to be done and remind myself of any commitments. I also take some time to prep my lunch box. I meal plan during the weekend so all it takes is putting everything in a box.

This is a relatively simple morning routine, but I like to think that starting my day this way every day is making me more disciplined, organized, and productive every day.
