The purpose of a goal is to be appropriate in the moment.
Gary Keller
Here are some beliefs that are killing our productivity:
Everything matters equally
Not everything matters. Don’t spend your best hours doing things that aren’t valuable to achieve your purpose.
- Figure out what is most valuable for you
- Pick an MIT every day (Most Important Thing)
- Act on your priorities first
Multitasking
One thing at a time. You’ll be surprised how productive and efficient you can be when you focus on one thing at a time.
Ask yourself this question. If you can only do one thing on your list of goals this year: what would you do?
Think sequentially.
Discipline
Discipline is a tool to develop habits.
Willpower is always on call
Willpower is a tool to develop habits.
Balance
We are always balancing things. Balance is not achievable.
Big is bad
Go big then go small. When setting your goals, it’s good to think big but you need to think small in your action steps. I will give you an example that is something I am currently working on. Here’s my thought process:
- What’s my goal? I want to lose 15 lbs., reduce my body fat percentage, and see my abs.
- What do I need to do to achieve my goal? I need to be on a caloric deficit. I either need to work out more, eat less, or a combination of both. I decided to go for a combination (work out three times a week and reduce my calorie intake by 400 every day.
- What do I need to focus on to achieve these new subgoals?
- Working out three times a week:
- Make a workout plan
- Take my gym bag with me to work so I can go to the gym immediately after work on Monday and Friday
- Reducing my calories
- Meal plan over the weekend
- Working out three times a week:
- Make my smallest step a habit I have been meal-prepping every week for the past month and it has helped tremendously. I am still working on making the workouts a consistent part of my week.
- Repeat Since I have formed the meal-prepping habit, I looked into more things I could do to help reduce my calorie intake.
- I can substitute white bread for wheat and Honey.I can remove coffee from my diet (I had a habit of drinking coffee and eating 400 calories worth of bread and peanut butter.)I can increase my food volume by eating more veggies.
