Mindset | Your Mindset Changes Everything

If you want to change your life, change your mindset because the way you think determines what you do and maybe more importantly how you do it.

Below are some mindsets that are worth adopting:

Growth vs Fixed Mindset

A fixed mindset is the limiting belief that one is stuck in a situation and cannot escape regardless of their efforts. This belief can be paralyzing which can make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. It might have developed over the years through learned helplessness, but we need to unlearn this.

Here are some indicators of a fixed mindset: You don’t think you can learn something because it’s difficult. You give up before you try. You think other people are just more talented.

Conversely, the growth mindset is the belief that one can grow by putting in the required effort. There is an element of control and responsibility that leads to improvement.

Abundance vs Scarcity Mindset

An abundance mindset is the idea that there is enough for everyone. It helps us be grateful for what we have.

Here are some indicators of a fixed mindset: You rejoice over other people’s success. You’re thankful for what you have. You are generous with what you have.

A scarcity mindset, however, believes that there isn’t enough of anything for everyone. It focuses on the things that we don’t have and makes us fear losing what we do have.

Positive vs Negative Mindset

A positive mindset is one of the most influential mindsets I know. It focuses on the bright side and expects positive results, influencing how we do things. Simply phrasing things differently can change our attitudes. One example is saying ‘get to’ instead of ‘have to’: I get to drive my sibling around for the whole day. This phrasing is a simple change, but it can shift our attitude from thinking of it as a chore to thinking of it as investing in our relationships.

A negative mindset can ruin our day and that of the people around us.

Constantly scanning the world for the negative comes with a great cost. It undercuts our creativity, raises our stress levels, and lowers our motivation and ability to accomplish goals.

Lifelong Learning

Being curious is such a positive quality. The desire to learn can prove helpful in so many areas of our lives and lifelong learning is a great mentality to cultivate. Think about your position right now and what you could learn to be better at it.

Embrace Failure

Failure can be a scary thing but it’s not something we should fear. We can let the fear of failure stop us from realizing our potential and going after what we want. Failure is simply an opportunity to learn and if you have embraced the previous mindset, failure is just one more tool for learning.
