Congratulations! You’ve just taken the first step to achieve your goals and I’m not talking about you reading this post. You’ve taken the first step when you realized that you need to set up a system.
This post is a compilation of all the things I have learned from books and articles on the topic.
Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.
Tony Robbins
1. Define Your Goals
If you don’t know where you are going, you won’t know when you get there. This step is the most important step, and you can’t skip it. Work on goals that motivate you and inspire you.
I encourage you to also define what achieving this goal looks like to you.
2. Research Your Predecessors
No matter what your goals are, there is likely someone who has done it or something similar before. Find them and investigate their ways. This is not about copying someone; it’s about using the most effective process by using proven methods. Find out who has done it before and figure out how they did it.
3. Process
Once you’ve defined your goals, and figured out the most common ways they have been achieved, work on deciding on a process that works for you. Having a well-defined process helps us break down our goals into manageable steps. It allows us to clarify the actions required, the resources needed, and the timeline for completion. By outlining the path ahead, we gain a clear understanding of what needs to be done, reducing overwhelm and increasing our confidence in tackling the challenges that lie ahead.
4. Take Action
I am a pro at following steps 1 through 3, but I often don’t take action on the process. However, this step is vital to achieving anything. Nothing will happen if you sit on the sidelines. Take action consistently.
By consistently following our process, we create momentum, ensuring that we stay focused and motivated, even when obstacles arise.
5. Adjust Your Process
Life happens and things don’t always work out how you expect them to, so be flexible. You don’t have to change your goal, but you might need to adjust your process.
